Witches Wednesday
A much better night was had, but, again, it didn’t start too well because Meinir didn’t hear Greg’s ‘go’. Sam did, and told Sarah, but no-one moved because Meinir and Glenn stayed put. (See question 4 on Tuesday’s posers!) SR eventually trekked on to set house No. 1 but, oh my god, the house bent in half. Meinir and Glenn steadied it and then, half way up the stage, it happened again. What was that all about? Was it dodgy brakes or the fact that we dismantled it in the rain on Saturday?
Spotlight Craig wanted the night off and Techie Matt was home doing his exams, but thankfully, the A-Team had come out of hiding to save us. Fly is now known as Stephen/Clive, by the way, because every time Greg called a follow spot cue, Gus and Mike had a heart attack.
For the house No. 2, Ken decided that it would be an idea to keep hold of the Acme-curtain-puller-downer, so he proceeded to hang a large stick around Meinir’s neck with a piece of string. After it had tripped her up 20 times, it was decided that using Jon was a safer bet. Hold the presses! Jon, of the Curtain Walkers Union, has refused to walk in the tabs at the end of the show. He’s decided to shake it up a bit and delegated the task to Valleys Favourite. JB also spent the night with a truncheon down his trousers.
The flying didn’t start off too well because Ken and Tom had the wrong wires. They were calling to the trackers to move to SR or SL and couldn’t understand why they weren’t moving in the right direction. Rhys was on stage, running back and forth, and Greg sent Meinir on to speak to Tom, but she was already there. The error of their ways was noted, the wires were swapped, and then Tom lost it completely—apparently his Tourettes could be heard in Cwmparc. The clipping was done accurately, just in time, and up the girls went, but Daniel, Rhys and Berwyn, who are doing the tracking, went a little crazy and swung them about all over the place. Watch the lights, boys, or Rob Thorne will tan your hide.
By halfway through Act 2, after SR had missed another ‘go’ from Greg and another ‘standby’, it dawned on Meinir that his battery was probably flat. Technology? JB keeps on saying that we rely too much on it. However, it was used to best effect last night when Greg called over that he was trying to take his clothes off to use as props, but couldn’t get his jeans past his trainers. Nice red pants, Greg!
The other flying incident involved Ralph. Up he went last night in the wings, all nice and tidy, and then Sam started tracking him towards SR. She noticed straight away that something was wrong because it was heavy and shouldn’t be, but Greg said pull harder, so she did—aided by Sarah and Mike E—until there was a pool of rope on the floor. What no-one knew was that the stage weight in the flys, which was holding the other end of the rope, flew off the steps and through the air with the greatest of ease. That’s some tug that Sam’s got.
1. Will the CWU adopt Valleys Favourite as an associated member?
2. Will Graham have to suffer a test flight tonight?
3. Will Gerwyn knock Kay off her feet again?
4. Will Meinir have to give another sex ed lesson in the bar?
5. Will cock man stand up and face the audience tonight?
